near Sarlat la Caneda in the Dordogne
department of France, about 12 miles from the River Dordogne.
Formerly a farm barn, it has been converted into superb living accommodation
for 6 people, in 2
double and 1 twin bedrooms upstairs. The ground floor
is given to a living area, with a corner kitchen, shower/toilet room (there
is a full bathroom on the first floor), and a large dining and lounging area
in front of a huge open fireplace.
The views from the gite are incredible, being close to the top of one of
the many hills of the area, and there are numerous paths, tracks and small
lanes criss-crossing the area making it a walkers delight. Being
a predominantly wooded area it is also ideal for those who enjoy birds and
wildlife.
There is no enclosed garden, as the house looks out onto a grassed walnut grove, walnuts being one of the main crops of the area, in which one can walk and the children can play. Immediately in front there is a stoned area with patio furniture, and a barbecue. This area is seldom overlooked, although there is a second gite immediately behind La Grange (owned by the same proprietors) and some private houses in this hamlet, called Combas.
Access
is by a tiny country lane which only serves the 4 or 5 houses around La grange
so traffic is very little. Shops are at Salignac, about 4 miles away,
or Sarlat which is about 7 miles distant. There is however the Montagut
bar and restaurant (pictures left), in the
next
village, Proissans, which is about 2 miles distant.
